Please join us for a festival in honor of St. George on Sunday, April 23rd, starting at 3pm! St. George is a favorite patron, a figure who epitomizes the knight in shining armor, who rescues the beautiful princess and her ravaged kingdom from an evil foe, a dragon. More importantly, St. George is a saint who models true devotion to Christ and to Our Lady. Legend tells us that he defeats the enemy in the name of the Cross, gathers souls through baptism for Christ, and animates love for Our Lady, who pours out graces upon those who believe, through his words and deeds. We seek then to give him due honor and ask for his continual intercession.
Attention squires and knights!! The celebration at our farm will include outdoor games and competitions, with a medieval-themed obstacle course made up of various feats: archery, axe-throwing, tree- and wall-climbing, and a creek-trek, to name a few challenges. Two age groups (12 and up including adults and 11 and under) will be divided into five teams: sable (black), purpure (purple), azure (blue), gules (red), and vert (green). Players are required to choose a team and dress in that color for the day, and, to add to the joy of the competition, revelers are asked to pick a team to root for, and to don team colors. We hope for a lively day of rousing competition! *The course will be rough and tumble, and wet, so please wear or bring appropriate play-clothes and shoes for that portion.
As is usual at our gatherings at Fatima Farm, we ask that you bring a rosary and a dish to share. Leave the electronics in the car and dress modestly. The obstacle course will begin at 5:30pm, preceded by prayer and a feast, then an awards ceremony, a St. George skit, music and singing around the bonfire with s’mores. Amongst other favorites, Non Nobis, Domine will feature as a theme song. Come prepared for a good time playing, praying, and music, and bring your singing voices and instruments to join in.
The timeless story of St. George suits our thirsting souls today, and we ask him to pray for us, to strengthen our wills against all temptation and snares, and to inspire us in ways that allow us to protect our children and raise them in a culture worthy of our heavenly reward, over and against the real threats that steal innocence, destroy imagination, and lead pure souls wayward. St. George, ora pro nobis! Our Lady of Fatima, ora pro nobis!
Please let us know if you plan to attend our St. George festival, and what team your players have chosen to play on. We look forward to seeing you then! NON NOBIS, DOMINE!!
