Orpheus could lead the savage race;
And trees unrooted left their place;
Sequacious of the lyre;
But bright Cecilia rais'd the wonder high'r;
When to her organ, vocal breath was giv'n,
An angel heard, and straight appear'd
Mistaking earth for Heav'n.
From A Song for St. Cecilia's Day, 1687, by John Dryden
Dear Friends,
Please join us for a festival in honor of St. Cecilia on Sunday, November 24th, starting at 2pm! St. Cecilia, the patroness of musicians, is a stronghold in our family and a continual source of inspiration for our humble musical aspirations. She is a model of virtue, having dedicated herself in purity as a chaste spouse for the Lord - so effectively that she converted her pagan husband Valerian and his brother, who joined her in martyrdom for the faith. Indeed, she died a persecuted Christian in 3rd century Rome, with her unsuccessfully severed head a manifestation of the miraculous: Cecilia, lying prone and fatally injured for three days, used her beautiful voice to sing the truth of the Triune God until the moment her soul departed her body to meet her Maker. Let her perseverance in faith be an example to us all!
Attention Aspiring Poets, Performers, Artists, & Musicians! The celebration at our farm will include outdoor games for amusement but also an exhibition, where we will welcome works of art to be put on display, and performances in music, singing, dance, recitation, and the like, all in honor of St. Cecilia and to the greater glory of God. To that end, please let us know what you would like to present or perform so that we can anticipate presentations for the day in the gazebo, our gallery and stage!
As is usual with our gatherings at Fatima Farm, we ask that you bring a rosary and a dish to share. Leave the electronics in the car. The presentations will begin at 4:00pm, preceded by prayer and a feast, then more music around the bonfire with s'mores. The Salve Regina will conclude the evening. Come prepared for playing, praying, and music, and bring your singing voices and instruments to join in!
St. Cecilia is a wonderful source of consolation and inspiration for us today as we continue to navigate the turbulent waters of the world, which ever strive to thwart our lofty - often even our humble - goals. Simply, we will look to the saints as guides, and rest assured of the graces we need as we strive for His glory in all that we do. Let us offer our talents and our treasures to help build up the City of God, and enjoy the small joys afforded us here on our pilgrim way to Heaven. St. Cecilia, ora pro nobis! Our Lady of Fatima, ora pro nobis!
Please let us know if you plan to attend our St. Cecilia festival, and whether you wish to bring or perform a piece of art in her honor. We look forward to seeing you then!
